About Meredith C. Noon
Meredith comes from a hospitality and service background, that guides her approach to client relationships. With a Psychology BA from Duke University, she managed restaurants for 7 years before returning to law school at the University of South Carolina in 1995. This background persuaded her towards an area of the law that was geared more towards ‘win-win’ situations and happy times. She launched her own real estate closing law firm in November of 1998, and for over 24 years, she and her law partner, Steve Hammett were known for the TLC with which they and their wonderful staff treated their clients. Her greatest joy and passion come from connecting with others and helping her clients navigate real estate transactions. Clients became champions? of the firm, and she has enjoyed lifelong relationships with her clients – and their families and friends.
She married the ‘competition’ in 2007 – J. Terry Laws. They never merged their two firms but enjoyed many evenings discussing the intricacies of various real estate transactions. She considers his daughters Courtnay and Jourdan as her ‘bonus daughters.’ After Terry passed in 2021, her parents moved in and for family reasons, Meredith reduced her practice to more part-time status to have quality time with them. She is now happily working with Courtnay, out of the Laws and Laws office at 8 Whitsett Street, ready to help her clients with all their real estate needs.
Meredith thoroughly enjoys networking opportunities to enable others to make valuable connections in all aspects of business and personal needs. She has hosted many networking events at her home over the years, with numbers sometimes reaching over 100 attendees. Currently, Meredith co-hosts an organic ladies networking night with her dear friend, Veera Gaul, owner of the downtown Greenville Oil and Vinegar store. This event, called ‘Cake and Whiskey’ highlights the sweet and spirited side of women in business and is founded on the premise of making authentic connections with others in the community.
When she is not practicing law, she loves connecting people towards mutual business success or personal friendships. And in her spare time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, entertaining and making memories with friends and family.
IN MEMORIUM
ABOUT J. TERRY LAWS
Before establishing his own law firm in 1989, Terry Laws practiced at four firms after being admitted to practice law in 1977. Each firm was successively merged with larger firms; the last of these was the largest firm in the state and one of the largest in the region.
For almost 30 years, J. Terry Laws, Attorney, LLC, now doing business as Laws & Laws, a licensed and insured law firm, has been a well-respected boutique firm practicing real estate and business law across South Carolina. The firm now consists of partner Courtnay Laws and a professional, courteous support staff.
Known as “an attorney who solves the hard problems,” Terry Laws was considered a deal maker and facilitator, all skills he honed from a nearly 42-year career in law practice.
The Laws and Laws firm continues to treat clients fairly and honorably. In Terry’s words, “Your work is important to us. It’s not one small item in an assembly line. Why? Because we want to see you tomorrow and next month and next year, whenever you need an attorney.”
Terry Laws was admitted to practice before all courts in South Carolina, in the United States District Court for South Carolina, the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He has been listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Law.
