About Meredith C. Noon

Meredith comes from a hospitality and service background, that guides her approach to client relationships.  With a Psychology BA from Duke University, she managed restaurants for 7 years before returning to law school at the University of South Carolina in 1995. This background persuaded her towards an area of the law that was geared more towards ‘win-win’ situations and happy times. She launched her own real estate closing law firm in November of 1998, and for over 24 years, she and her law partner, Steve Hammett were known for the TLC with which they and their wonderful staff treated their clients. Her greatest joy and passion come from connecting with others and helping her clients navigate real estate transactions. Clients became champions? of the firm, and she has enjoyed lifelong relationships with her clients – and their families and friends.

She married the ‘competition’ in 2007 – J. Terry Laws. They never merged their two firms but enjoyed many evenings discussing the intricacies of various real estate transactions. She considers his daughters Courtnay and Jourdan as her ‘bonus daughters.’  After Terry passed in 2021, her parents moved in and for family reasons, Meredith reduced her practice to more part-time status to have quality time with them. She is now happily working with Courtnay, out of the Laws and Laws office at 8 Whitsett Street, ready to help her clients with all their real estate needs.

Meredith thoroughly enjoys networking opportunities to enable others to make valuable connections in all aspects of business and personal needs. She has hosted many networking events at her home over the years, with numbers sometimes reaching over 100 attendees. Currently, Meredith co-hosts an organic ladies networking night with her dear friend, Veera Gaul, owner of the downtown Greenville Oil and Vinegar store. This event, called ‘Cake and Whiskey’ highlights the sweet and spirited side of women in business and is founded on the premise of making authentic connections with others in the community.

When she is not practicing law, she loves connecting people towards mutual business success or personal friendships. And in her spare time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, entertaining and making memories with friends and family.

About Scott E. Lawrence

“Scott, you practice law with the heart of a teacher.” This is certainly the best compliment that he has received in his 35 years of being an attorney. Scott has devoted his work to helping clients navigate complex legal issues, in order to make practical decisions about their real estate transactions.

Scott was born and raised as a proud Kansas Jayhawk, and eventually made his way east to Wake Forest University School of Law, graduating in 1989. After establishing a law practice in the 1990s in Cornelius, NC (Lake Norman), he relocated to Greenville, SC, where he worked for 20 years as a respected solo practitioner.

Scott joined Laws & Laws in 2024, and now focuses his practice in two areas: complex commercial real estate transactions, and construction lending for builders.

His commitment to community service has included service as:
• Chairman of the Real Estate Section of the S.C. Bar
• Chairman of the Board of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce,
• Legal Counsel for the Our Towns Habitat for Humanity (Davidson, NC)
• Member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas University Athletic Corporation

On his personal time, you may find Scott traveling, hiking, and trying every new restaurant in town.

IN MEMORIUM

ABOUT J. TERRY LAWS

Before establishing his own law firm in 1989, Terry Laws practiced at four firms after being admitted to practice law in 1977. Each firm was successively merged with larger firms; the last of these was the largest firm in the state and one of the largest in the region.
For over 35 years, J. Terry Laws, Attorney, LLC, now doing business as Laws & Laws, has been a well-respected boutique firm practicing residential and commercial real estate and business law across South Carolina.

Terry was known as “an attorney who solves the hard problems.” He was considered a deal maker and facilitator, treating his clients fairly and honorably, all skills he honed over 44 years of law practice.

Laws & Laws continues to treat clients fairly and honorably. In Terry’s words, “Your work is important to us. It’s not one small item in an assembly line. Why? Because we want to see you tomorrow and next month and next year, whenever you need an attorney.” Courtnay and the Laws & Laws staff strive to honor Terry’s words and legacy.

J. Terry Laws was admitted to practice before all courts in South Carolina, in the United States District Court for South Carolina, the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He has been listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Law. He was a cherished father and husband and is loved and remembered by many who knew him.
